Viking Britain 793 AD
In 793 Vikings sailed the North Sea to a Christian monastery in Lindisfarne. When the Vikings landed they murdered the monks and stole the treasure of the monastery. Over Britain, even more of these raids where reported.
70 years later in 865 a 'Great army' of Danish Vikings invaded England's East Anglia. By 875, 10 years after the invasion started, the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms Mercia and Northumbria had been taken over by the Danish invaders. The areas that occupied Mercia and Northumbria were now to be known as ' The Danelaw'.
