William II |
William 1 ( or William the Conqueror) was born in Normandy, France. After his fathers death in 1035, William became the Duke of Normandy, follow in his father foot steps.
William married his cousin Matilda of Flanders around 1051. In the 30 years of marriage they had many children one being William who was later to be William II, King of England and Henry who was later to be Henry 1, King of England.
William took the thrown of the King of England in 1066 after he invaded England and won the Battle of Hastings against King Harold.
